ux research for educational platform

BuildWithin

BuildWithin is an educational platform where companies can train new employees. I was responsible for providing research and creating information architecture in Miro

Year: 2023
My role: Senior UI/UX Designer
Country:  USA
Country:  Clay
Industry:  EdTech
Tools:  Figma, Miro
Actvities:  Research, UX structure
Team:  2 (Senior designer & Senior designer)

Research goals

My duty was to conduct research for the BuildWithin educational platform. The research included finding UX solutions that could be useful for the platform, as well as conclusions and recommendations, information structure and PRD (determine project requirements and restrictions)
  • To determine which approaches and user interaction models are used by Build Within's direct and indirect competitors
  • To, through research, determine an appropriate direction for the visual architecture and design of the BuildWithin applications
  • To identify gamification technologies used by competitors and those on other education related platforms

Presentation structure

The presentation consists of several main parts - UI/UX research, Information Architecture, PRD
  • UI/UX Research Takeaways
  • Platform Architecture
  • PRD (Apprentice & Employers)
  • Next steps

Competitors takeaways

After reviewing competitors, we found that most of them contain 3 main features:
  • Low entry threshold. A product with a complex business structure can scare users.
  • Resource library. Including a unique, company specific resource library along with courses
  • Resource library. Including a unique, company specific resource library along with courses

Customization & Flexibility Research Examples

Customization & Flexibility includes options such as Customizing the look of the platform for each company, Fast and Flexible Search, Tooltips for New Features, etc.The ability to personalize the company workspace and switch between roles makes the system flexible.Integration possibilities Include a list of third-party services that can be connected to the educational platform.

Gamification Research Examples

While apprentices are engaged in the learning process gamification encourages them to continue learning and it motivates mentors and managers. Allowing users to see their progress has a similarly encouraging effect: when users see how far they’ve come they want to continue moving forward on the task they are working on.

Users should receive badges, stickers and other awards at particular progress intervals - these markers are also effective mechanisms of encouragement.

Project Requirements

PRD is the next step after the information architecture, it allows you to prioritize the options that will go into the MVP version
